The Demarco legacy began when Mario accompanied his sister to Ken Pollard’s Dance school in Gorseinon, despite originally preferring to play football! Very soon, Mario became more passionate about dancing and started taking exams at Josephine’s in Swansea and entering competitions. After receiving professional coaching in London, his moment came when he represented the Welsh Team, performing the Pasodoble on the original version of Come Dancing, featuring Angela Rippon, televised in the Tower Ballroom in Blackpool.
Mario decided to become a professional dancer and gave up his part-time job and was asked to attend Fred Astaire’s Dance School in Boston, America. On his return to Swansea, Mario decided to set up his very own dance school 13 years ago. Situated in Swansea City Centre, the building is renovated to a high standard with a sprung Mapel dance floor, stage and fully licensed bar.He then continued his professional training and was successfully examined as Highly Commended in his Associate and licentiate in Ballroom and latin with the IMPERIAL SOCIETY OF TEACHERS OF DANCING.
Demarco’s wouldn’t be complete without Rebekah Silk, Mario’s Dance partner, who he taught from scratch. She teaches children and assists with adult classes and organises all events and competitions throughout the year. Having retired from competing professionally Mario now uses his expert skills as a championship adjudicator at international dance arenas.
